After spending 10 days looking for the illusive moose, I finally - TopicsExpress

After spending 10 days looking for the illusive moose, I finally located a herd of 3 bulls, 2 cows and a calf this morning, just before leaving the Teton/Jackson Hole area. They were way back in the brush..... with many people waiting around the highway for the moose to come closer to the road. I did not want to go bush-wacking after them.... possibly scare the herd away, and get pummeled by fellow photographers/tourist. Instead, I went to town... got groceries, had breakfast (11:30 am), then headed back out to the scene of the critters. After arriving, I headed into the thicket along the creek and found the herd, feasting on their favorite foods. They were pretty agreeable to my observations. When shooting animals, I cautiously work slowly toward them (taking pictures as I go).... getting closer and closer, always watching for signs that they (any animal) are getting uptight or edgy. If I notice this happening, I back off to give them more space. I also usually position myself near or behind a tree for protection. These guys let me get within 40 feet of them. By the end of my visitation with the moose, it had began to snow again.
