After they described horrible scenes from their homeland, a pastor, bishop and imam talked to a few of us over a quiet dinner about the hope they have in their Central African Republic youth. I asked about how best reconciliation can take place amid such conflict and strife. And if in fact the methods brought in by well meaning experts is doing more harm. We have our own ways to reconcile that are being ignored. We have had a talking tree in our communities where everyone comes together to tell the truth. The truth of what each has done, each as endured, each wants to see. Every assumption and untruth is taken to task and unmasked. Then only can healing and reconciliation start. The truth tree is left out too often in favor of a conference room table and name tags.
