After two Newcastle United Fans, John Alder and Liam Sweeney died in the tragic crash of flight MH17 last week, Sunderland AFC supporters were moved to put aside the long-standing rivalry between their clubs and opened a fund to help pay for flowers for the funerals. The response has been outstanding, and currently the funds stands at almost £30,000. The public’s generosity has meant that in addition to flowers, the fund will be used for charitable donations. We are humbled that our Newcastle Hospice has been chosen as one of the charity beneficiaries and our gratitude goes out to those who have donated to the fund. Our thoughts are with the families of John and Liam, and all those affected by the crash at this difficult time.
