After watching the movie, I think this article misses that the baddie in the movie is not an atheist, but an anti-theist (the film even points this out.) And people (even college professors) like him do exist. Cindy Warren can attest to that from personal experience. The other thing that article did not address is there are jerky and misguided Christians in the film. Why wasnt that mentioned? Did it not fit the Us vs Them diatribe? In the end, every personality type in that film truly exist, though none of them could be pinpointed as a true representative of any group or humanity as a whole. Its a Christian movie slanted towards extremes to make a point. I see how it makes atheists angry. Id be angry too. But that wasnt an Us vs Them film, it was meant to equip Christians when they come across people who disagree with them, and by using extreme examples, it equips them for situations that run the gamut of normal to extreme. One last thing this article failed to mention: Nowhere at any point in the film were Christians depicted as treating atheists with anything but love or the respect they deserve. Of course, in reality we know that doesnt always happen, but lets face it, the writers of this glorified high school skit turned film wrote this film as an instructive tool to believers. And it does a great job of that. Were meant to love and respect people regardless of their beliefs. Were meant to tell the truth in love. Were meant to know how to defend our faith. We are meant to share the message of Jesus Christ. Is this Oscar material? Uh...no. But I really enjoyed the film, especially the scientific aspects of it.
