Again, we face the sad reality of death among us. The sudden and unexpected passing of our classmate Avieria Williams reminds us how unpredictable life can be. She was no victim of violence, and no casualty of a tragic circumstance; she just slipped away. The psalmist (Psalm 90) laments this dreaded feeling that all life is taken in a quick and unforeseen manner. But before despair and hopelessness could set in, he asked to be taught to number his days so that he might apply his heart to wisdom. May we, too, ask this of the Holy Other and live with purpose and meaning, taking no one and nothing for granted. I pray the memory of our friend be for a blessing. May she rest in peace.
