Aggie Volleyball: Back in Action By Justine Gaskamp Goodwell, Okla. — The OPSU volleyball team is back on the court preparing for the fall season, and with eleven players returning, the Aggies have a strong foundation to build on. The team started spring training in March practicing five days a week and has competed in two spring tournaments thus far; though scores are not kept during scrimmages the Aggies have been competitive in each set played. Head volleyball coach Mike Stephens said that, the team is working hard and really motivated to make improvements. This spring Stephens has been focusing the group on defensive intensity and keeping the ball in play. Aggie volleyball will kick off the 2014 season at home with a Heartland Conference match against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Thursday, Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. The Aggie Challenge Tournament will take place Sept. 5-6 with four teams competing this year: OPSU, St. Gregorys, University of the Southwest and Southwestern Christian. The Aggies will host a spring scrimmage against Seward County Community College next week; the game is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Oscar Williams Field House. The 2014 schedule can be found on the volleyball page of the OPSU Aggie Athletics website.
