Aging Gracefully I feel the aches and pains in places I never - TopicsExpress

Aging Gracefully I feel the aches and pains in places I never thought I had, And now I hear the title Grandpa more than I hear - Dad; My hair that once was thick and wavy has mostly waved goodbye, And I notice now that I can’t see very well out of either eye; And when folks talk I catch myself saying - What was that you said? They laugh a little as I cup my ear and slightly tilt my head; My hearing ain’t what it used to be, and my teeth are the store-bought kind, And it seems there are a lot of things that simply slip my mind; It seems I leave things lying around, and forget where they were laid, Like keys and watches, my store-bought teeth, my glasses and hearing aid; My wife and I remind each other that it’s time to take our pills, And neither of us can seem to remember which one paid the bills; I help her get up off the couch, and she helps me sit down, And we must decide which is easier, whether to laugh or frown; She tells me where she’s hurting, I tell her I’m hurting more, She says her feet are aching, I say my buttocks are sore; For forty-five years, some laughter and tears, we’ve managed to get by, And during that time we’ve both decided, it’s better to laugh than cry; Yes, we’re just aging gracefully, and God sure has been good, We’ve always had a roof above us, clothes, and plenty of food; With all our aches and pains we’ve gained a little wisdom too, And one thing we have always known, our God is always true; So we just grin and bear it all, and do the best we can, Just loving Him, and going to church, and helping our fellow man; For we both know that at the end of this journey here below, There’s a place of beauty, peace and rest, to which we both shall go; A place where all our loved ones, someday we hope to see, But until then, we’ll go on trusting, and aging gracefully. ©2014 Arvil Jones
