Agriculture deptt organizes sensitization programme on Bee keeping JAMMU JUNE 19-The department of Agriculture Jammu organized one day sensitization programme on Bee keeping on the topic ‘Impact of Bee keeping in the Socio-economic Status of the Unit Holders’ at Krishi Bhawan Jammu in which more than 50 bee keepers and bee breeders from Jammu district participated. The seminar was inaugurated by Director Agriculture Jammu, Ajay Khajuria. While interacting with the bee keepers, Director Agriculture impressed upon the bee keepers to adopt this activity as a full fledged profession and involve the youths to set up bee keeping units for development of apiculture sector in Jammu Division. He said that the Department is providing assistance for purchase of modern tools and equipments, subsidy for establishment of bee keeping units and assistance to Bee breeders for providing colonies to the new bee keepers. He informed that for maintaining the purity and hygiene of the extracted honey, the Department is also providing assistance on stainless steel containers. He also asked the bee keepers to adopt latest technologies and techniques in honey production by maintaining the quality and purity so that it can be exported to get better returns. He called upon them to visit the institutions and farms which have taken lead in apiculture sector to get know how and training in latest techniques of apiculture for which the Department will arrange the trainings and visits. He advised the bee keepers to go for production of byproducts of Honey such as royal jelly, pollens, bee venom etc. as they fetch high returns. Replying to the various issues projected by the bee keepers, Director Agriculture assured them that the problems faced by them in marketing of honey, Insurance, migration of colonies and unnecessary delay at the check posts will be taken up with the concerned departments for their early redressal. Plant Protection Officer Jammu Bulesh Zutshi gave a detailed lecture on species of honey bees and management of bee colonies in summer, winter and rainy season. Asstt. Entomologist Perveen Kousar, elaborated about various schemes and programmes of Apiculture Scheme of the Department. Bee Breeders Indu Bhushan and Chouhan also spoke at the occasion. The technical session was conducted by Sarvarkar Anand and B D Choudhary Research Assistants.
