Ah, another council meeting and another night of fun! In case you - TopicsExpress

Ah, another council meeting and another night of fun! In case you missed the play-by-play Ann was doing, here is a brief summary about the council meeting…. Once again the council had a problem with the consent agenda. It needs updating, that was agreed upon at the last meeting, I’m just wondering why that update hasn’t happened or why it wasn’t brought up in a motion to make it happen. They passed this months consent agenda minus the water bill. Looking at last month’s minutes, the consent agenda was tabled. In the 2013/2014 budget money was moved from various accounts to cover deficits in other accounts. This apparently is a quarterly adjustment. For the 2014/2015 budget there are various road improvement projects that are scheduled to be done and the division street project has been moved to this coming budget year. And there is a millage change that was voted on and approved. The only change is taking the Highway millage from 3.85 to 2.85 and giving that 1 mill to a new category of “public safety” to cover the deficit in the fire department. It is a little concerning that the max millage is 17 and we are at 16.75, and what do we have to show for it? They voted to support the New Haven High School year book with a full page advertisement. And make a resolution to Mr. Frank Reed after his unfortunate passing. The planning commission had 2 members resign, Daniel Stier and Cindy Goward, both of whose resignations were accepted. And now for more Rizzo news… as you know our current contract with Rizzo Environmental Services is up in September of this year. They are proposing a new 5 year contract at 14.48 for the first year and then 2% rate increases in years 2-5. In that they will provide larger recycle bins and offer recycle rewards to increase recycling in the village. The bill would come from Rizzo directly and would no longer be included on the water bill. Rizzo reps said it is the same program they have with Chesterfield currently. And I have to thank Trustee Tidwell for asking for a price negotiation, but I would also like to see quotes from other trash haulers. They adopted an ordinance to pay bills before they are approved for items that happen every month and are around the same dollar amount. They are doing this because bills are being paid late and we are incurring late fees that could be avoided by paying bills on time. The treasures report is interesting this month as Selena is continually asking for the rights to the computer programs to run reports to get detailed information to be able to do her job as treasurer of the village and she is being denied those rights. There is really no reason I can think of why she shouldn’t have computer access to financial information. Sturdy-Grinding was approved for the tax abatement after holding the special meeting before the council meeting tonight. I missed that pre-meeting meeting, so if anyone can fill us in on that it would be appreciated. Or if I missed something that you would like to add, that would be great too!
