Ah sept 11 the time of year when all the people come out in droves - TopicsExpress

Ah sept 11 the time of year when all the people come out in droves to shout and yell and joke and just cause all sorts of drama. Ive seen every site on fb make an announcement about the jokes at this point, and because I respect those peoples wishes I wont put my opinion there, but instead here. Firstly, telling 9/11 jokes ON 9/11 is disrespectful, its kind of like salt in the wound, HOWEVER I dont think 9/11 is the magical date that no one in there world is allowed to make fun of. I know people will get pissed at me for saying this, but honestly seriously think about what Im about to say here. Theres been FAR worse tragedies that have happened, and yet it seems like Americans think 9/11 was the be all end all of tragedy. Yet when we bombed Hiroshima, oh that was ok because they attacked our military first sorry but we killed civilians, more times than just that. Also, I will be quoting some random popular media to make what Im saying make more sense. As south park said in their Mohammed ep, Its either all ok or nothing is ok The moment you start to say this isnt ok to joke about is when the bias starts to come into play, and more and more people will want less and less things joked about. Its bias to say oh hey its cool to joke about hitler because he was a monster even though he killed how many people, but we cant joke about the terrorists who flew a plane into the towers And last but not least, tragedy IS comedy. You can try to pretend like 80% of stand-ups DONT use tragedy as a form of comedy, but youre wrong. Gilbert Godfried made a 9/11 joke like right after it happened, and so have many other comedians since. So if youre someone who has a problem with those types of jokes, then I hope youre not a hypocrite and listen to those types of comedy routines. Joan Rivers, while talking about people with disabilities and 9/11 once said If we couldnt laugh or smile in the face of tragedy where the hell would we be now? If we seriously kept ourselves depressed over every tragedy wed never be allowed to be happy because theres always tragedy in the world. It takes a special kind of person to be able to make light of a situation in that manner. In short, it happened over 10 years ago, theres no reason for people with no connection to the incident besides being an American to continue to act as if this event was the worse thing to ever happen in the world. Seriously look at ISIS and Gaza right now, maybe we should be putting our empathy and sympathy to that rather than something that happened over 10 years ago. There will always be comedy about tragedy, and as long as its truly comedy and not someone trying to be rude and edgy to piss someone off, I dont see a problem with it. But like a said, doing the jokes ON 9/11 is a bit too edgy, however I dont think those that make the joke are some kind of terrible people considering PROFESSIONAL COMEDIANS make those kind of jokes all the time. Sorry if I offended anyone, this was not meant to be offensive, but more of an eyeopener to how selfish it seems for us as americans to say you cant joke about 9/11 because it happened to us and then those same people turn around and make jokes about hitler and the jews, and stalin, and school shoot ups, and disabilities.
