Ah, social media. I know two people -- at least two, actually -- who tell this same horrific story. They have friends who recently found out about the deaths of immediate loved ones -- a father in one case, a daughter in the other -- through Facebook posts. They LEARNED of the deaths that way. In one case, a son gets a message of condolence from a well-meaning friend; the son didnt know about his fathers death yet. In the other case, a mother finds that people are writing posts as though her daughter has died! She goes on FB herself to ask: whats up with these posts?? And then, somehow, she finds out that her daughter IS gone. And returns to FB to acknowledge the fact. What, if anything, do you think can be done about this heart-rending phenomenon? The commenters have good intentions, no doubt. But the harm is horrendous.
