Ahh, memories. One of my favorite things about playing hockey was chirping, the art of talking shit to your opponents. Thankfully, I was blessed with language skills, so I considered myself pretty good at it. Roger Howard can vouch for me. One PG rated story I remember was when we were playing Bay Area (basically the Green Bay schools), and they had a guy who was pretty hefty in the abdominal region. He played defense, and I played center. I lined up for a faceoff, and shouted over to him: Hey! I hear Jenny Craig has some openings at their local meeting! So as the game wore on, our guys kept saying, Jenny Craig to him any time he could hear us. Later, he cross-checked me in the face. It knocked me to my knees, and cut my lip. So Im on one knee looking up at him, and the look on his face indicated that death was imminent for me. By the grace of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, the linesman stepped in between us before he could come in any closer. Bleeding profusely from the face, I flashed the biggest smile I could conjure at him. Thankfully, he took a Game Misconduct (an automatic ejection) for the cross-check, which is probably the only reason Im alive to tell this story. Two of them from this video that Ill be storing in my brain for next season are: Youre like a tampon. Youre only good for one period. Hey, does your coach know youre out here?
