Ahmad Noorani ISLAMABAD: And now its Raza Rumi. Terrorists Friday attacked Pakistans most humble, educated, highly experienced professional and analyst who believes in interfaith harmony, work against intolerance and always write or speak on basis of research and established facts instead of mere emotions or so called believes. Attack on Raza in Lahore is yet another warning of terrorists to all the journalists who speak truth and expose barbarianism of terrorists and hypocrisy of pro-terrorists organizations. As a journalist and analyst, Raza Rumi always voiced for rationality and tried his best to bridge gaps between different segments of society which are poles apart because of ideological or ethnic reasons. One may differ with Raza views or his stance on any issue may be wrong for some but he always interact with or respond to others with respect and dignity. He would always be trying to persuade others to be tolerant and bear opposite views with patience and grace. Raza Rumi is generally known as a liberal Pakistani analyst but one can remember many instances when Raza differed and even oppose views of other liberal friends with argument. Despite having enlightened views and following modern approaches, unlike many other so called liberals, Raza will always feel proud of his religion, his country, his values and traditions. However, this is a big weakness in Razas personality that despite being so polite and humble he was unable to be be a hypocrite or to speak blatant lies to ensure his security and safety. He will always express his views about deadly terrorists and would openly term terrorism existential threat to the country. Even during present process of negotiations with Taliban, Raza never took a one-sided or biased position and apprise his readers and viewers both sides of the issue. Raza always discussed pros and cons of negotiation process as well as of any possible military operation. Yes, one may disagree with many views of Raza but one will have to admit he always speaks or writes on basis of arguments respectfully and without any emotions. He has the ability to bear criticism and confront even abusive and sick views with logic and rational. No doubt that Raza’s honest views were the only reason of attack on him. Attack on Raza Rumi has once again established that space for difference of opinion and tolerance is almost diminishing in Pakistan as even the ambassadors of tolerance, like Raza, are being attacked for having rational, unbiased and balanced views. Attack on Raza has cost one life and injured another. Raza is safe but attack on him has shattered the confidence of journalists as well as many advocates of peace, tolerance and harmony in Pakistan. Keeping in view past performance of police and government, it is clear that Raza case will become a history after few days but this attack has once again proved that Punjab Government has been completely failed in taking action against banned organizations, their madaras and safe heavens and these criminals are still at large.
