[Ahmad Zahid ticks off Waytha] PUTRAJAYA : In a scathing attack on deputy minister P. Waythamoorthy over his comments on the killing of five suspected gang members in Penang, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix) said the former Hindraf leader should step down if he persists in thinking and commenting like a leader of a non-governmental organisation (NGO). Ahmad Zahid said Waythamoorthy should remember that he is now a member of the administration, and thus his statements should not contradict the policies and stands of the government. “He should not think he is an NGO leader, he is no longer the leader of Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf). “If he wants to (speak) like a Hindraf leader, he should step down as deputy minister (in the PM’s Department) and concentrate on Hindraf or other NGOs,” Ahmad Zahid said at a press conference after receiving a courtesy call from Bangladesh Expatriates, Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain at his office today. He was referring to Waythamoorthy’s suggestions that the five suspected 04 gang members who were killed on Monday were shot at point-blank range. Waythamoorthy had said it appeared that the police did not shoot the five dead in self-defence. He claimed to be in possession of photographs of the shooting obtained by his sources, and said there was no reason why police could not have detained them. Ahmad Zahid also said Waythamoorthy should not meddle with police work. “The police do not give warning shots before shooting people, if that is done, the criminals will end up shooting the police first. “I suggest he stop speaking on matters that are out of his jurisdiction. This is police work, leave it to them. “Malaysian police are never known to be trigger happy,” he said. On calls for an inquest into the shooting, Ahmad Zahid said: “I have no problem with that because there is no political interference in police operations. I leave it to the police to handle.” - thesundaily.my Full article: malaysia-chronicle/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=149632:ahmad-zahid-ticks-off-waytha&Itemid=2#ixzz2cmSEeHjh Follow us: @MsiaChronicle on Twitter
