Ahmed Shaheed – supporting prisoners in Iran Ahmed Shaheed, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, said in Iran under the mullahs’ rule and Rouhani’s watch there are individuals who are arrested and jailed for expressing their opinions, having connections with a cultural organization, their activities in school and participating in unrecognized gatherings, demonstrations or religious events. Lack of adequate protection for civil and political rights has led to the detention of more than 895 ‘prisoners of conscience’ in Iran, he wrote in a piece on his own website. Shaheed referred to the execution of PMOI martyr Gholamreza Khosravi who was hanged for his participation in human rights and political groups. Shaheed went on to call on the international community to continuously remind Iran of its commitments, and he specifically called for the execution of four Sunni Kurdish political prisoners Hamed Ahmadi, Jahangir Dehghani, Jamshid Dehghani and Kamal Molaei to be revoked.
