Ahn Cheol-sood better form a new party of centrists, - TopicsExpress

Ahn Cheol-sood better form a new party of centrists, conservatives, progressives During the last Presidential election, Ahn Chol-soo prevailed over the then Saenuri Presidential Candidate Park Geun-hye in many opinion polls where, however, Candidate Park won higher points than the opposition candidate Moon Jae-in. Public opinion-wise, Ahn, naturally, should have become the single opposition candidate but somehow he conceded the candidacy to Moon--obviously involuntarily under some pressure although he gave a lukewarm statement of support for Moon. According to the simple logic and mathematic rules, Ms. Park won and Moon lost the election. Ahn has continued to be had (in the eyes of a political layman) by the Moon faction and the original Democratic Party (DP) followers--with the result that Ahn is now all but invisible—dwarfed by Moon and the old DP faction. Now Moon and the old DP faction want to change the name of the party back to the Democratic Party eliminating the image and influence of new politics of Ahn. Most opinion polls show that South Korea politico-ideologically consists of 40% conservatives, 40-50% middle-of-the-roaders, 10-20% old DP followers and 2-3% progressives (including 0.2% pro-North Korean ‘progressives’ like Lee Suk-ki). It seems that its not easy to do, but Ahn might as well quit the party and form a new one of his own to get back all his former supporters, the middle-of-the-roaders, reform-minded conservatives and non-pro-North Korean progressives.
