Ahoy Members and Friends, Anyone care to match or exceed the Pacific Merchant Marine Council’s $50 contribution to the Presidential Yacht POTOMAC, F.D.R.’s “Floating White House”, usspotomac.org? She is not one of our “adopted” vessels but we treasure her and look forward to her continuing to transmit her message as she cruises San Francisco Bay. By the way, I recently delved into the Navy League of the United States history book and discovered one of the differences between President Herbert Hoover and President Franklin D. Roosevelt was their interest in things maritime and especially the Navy. There was quite a flare-up between the President of the Navy League and President Hoover over ship construction and the size of the Navy. President Roosevelt with his early lifetime near and on the water and likely the influence of his uncle Theodore Roosevelt was pro marine construction and pro Navy preparedness. The website usspotomac.org is very informative – great photos, interesting history, the 2014 cruise schedule, and more.
