Hi everyone, Well, it is that time of year again and we are excited to announce that we have a place to hand the meals out. The previous years we have just set up shop in the Food Lion parking lot on Peach Orchard Road. This year we will be handing them out at our business. We have a lot going on for this year. We are trying to partnering with the local high school to post their artwork on our walls. A percentage of all sales will be donated to the meal drive. As all of you know, this is a very important time for my family and I. We look forward to this time all year. We really enjoy helping others. I am here asking all of you again to please donate what you can. My family and I will be donating a minimum of 12 meals. We are looking to reach 100 for Thanksgiving. I know that this is a huge number but I think that we can do it. Please know that we truly understand if you choose not to donate. We all have a lot going on. This time of year we all are pulled in so many different ways and are already apart of so many different things. So please, please do not feel as if you have to donate. Your prayer and good wishes mean the same to us. Last year I received a lot of emails just wishing the fund well, and that was more than enough for us. It made us see that we are doing something good for others. For you that do not know the story I have added the back-story below. You can look in my photo albums and view the pictures of the Thanksgiving & Christmas Meals from last years event. We are looking for volunteers to help us hand the meals out. It is a good way for children to experience the joy of giving back. We will be handing them out from 9 am-12 pm on November 23, 2013 at 2834 Washington Road, Suite O, Augusta, Georgia 30909. We are asking that you please have your donations in no later than November 16, 2013. This will give us enough time to make arrangement for the food and families. We are expecting the meals to cost $18 to $20 apiece. I hope everyone is enjoying your day! Merry Christmas!!!! I know all of you are looking for an update..... Well..... With lots of prayers and some last minute donations, we were able to pass the 50 meal mark and hand out Fifty-Three Meals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s right 53 meals. On Saturday, a group of us met in the Food Lion and Apple Bee’s parking lot on Peach Orchard and Windsor Springs road at 9:30. We started packing up the food and handing them out. There were 9 magnificent kids that gave up there Saturday to come and help! We really felt that the kids got something positive out the process. It really appeared they had a lot of fun and enjoyed handing the meals out to the families. It showed the kids that, just a little goes a long way. They were awesome!!!! I know some of you may not understand the worth of your donations. Wether it was in the form of money, wishes, and/or prayers, all of you help so very much. To put what you did into context, think of it like this: During the holidays, some people have to choose between buying food or having electricity. With your donations you have helped someone improve their lives. This Christmas, they did not have to sacrifice food to pay a bill or vice versa. So when I say, thank you for your help..... I mean thank you for your help in providing a family with a better life! We are so thankful for the generosity that was so graciously provided to our cause. When we started this a couple of years ago, we did not think of doing it on this big of a scale. We are so excited and grateful that all of you have helped us with doing so much for so many families. We do our best to get the food at a good price. Just before the holiday they usually drop the prices. We are so happy and appreciate all of your help, time, and efforts to get us to this point! With the donations collected and Toni and I buying 13 meals.... we will be handing out 48 meals!!!! Thats right 48 meals!!!! Can you believe that?!?!?! We are so excited to be able to do this for so many families, certainly this time of the year. Whether is money or time, we all donate for the holidays one way or another. For all of you that have donated please now that this achievement is because of all of you. We thank you for opening up your hearts and sharing in our small familys circle of giving. It is Christmas time and we are at it again. We are going to hand out meals for Christmas. Last month for Thanksgiving with the help of all of you we were able to hand out 43 meals. That did a lot of good for those families. With your help we have made a positive difference in so many people lives. All of you should be proud of what you have done. I personally appreciate your donations. Now we have the chance to do the same, if not more for Christmas. This year we are partnering with the local Suntrust Bank and Walmart and with your help we can achieve even a greater success. I am asking all of you once again to reach out a helping hand and donate. Partnering with Walmart we got the cost of each meal under $18. The meal included the turkey, rice, stuffing, 3 cans of vegetables, cranberry sauce, macaroni & cheese, and a frozen pie. For Christmas we will be giving the same items away except it will be a ham. We are anticipating the cost per meal to be $18-$20. I am asking all of you to just donate what you can. As, I said before, any amount will help and all of your funds will go to buying the meals. We are asking to have your donations in by December 14th. That will allow us enough time to get a solid number of how many meals we can hand out. We will coordinate with Walmart to arrange the pickup of the meals in the morning of December 22. We will be handing the meals out later that day. All of you should feel proud of yourselves that you are apart of something good. We help a lot of families. I thought the meals would come to approximately $24 per meal. Working with Walmart, we manage to get the price down to just over $17 per meal. That was excellent because it allowed us to buy more meals. My wife and I bought 19 and with the donations, we bought a total of 42. We handed out 41 of the 42 meals purchased. The previous years we drove house to house and handed out the meals. This year with the amount of meals we had we did it a little different. Today we set up in the parking lot of the Food Lion on Peach Orchard Road. We did not have a table so we bagged all of the food out of the back of our truck and handed them out. It is a really good feeling to be able to help someone out. And I appreciate all of you helping us to do that. The hardest part was turning people away because they were not on the list. Therefore, my wife and I had to purchase a couple of extras. I really want all of you to understand the significance of your donation. On more of a personal note, your donations allowed me to show my boys that giving is extremely important in life. A “little” goes a long way. It shows them the value of giving and that is extremely important to my wife and I. I really cannot thank you enough for making this possible. I apologize to all of you that did not have the time to donate. I know that I requested donations kind of late. This was mainly because we had originally planned just to hand out the 12. I have always been the one that think of giving. Therefore, 2 years ago I went into my locate Food Lion to pick up something quick to eat. I saw turkeys for $8-$9 apiece. I then started think that I could buy them and give them to families. So I pick up 6 of them. I later looked around the store and saw that I could provide a family an entire meal for around $20-$22. So I bought 6 meals (description of a meal is listed below). I then called my renter to see if they knew of anyone that needs a meal for thanksgiving. I told her to give out my number and have them call me. I bought a total of 10 meals for thanksgiving. My wife had to work the day we handed them out but I took my kids door to door handing out the meals. I decided to do this because it shows them that giving is very important in life. We are put here to help others when we can and that we are no better than anyone else no matter our zip code or color! We did the same for Christmas that year. Last year we did 12 meals for Thanksgiving and 12 meals for Christmas. My wife, Mrs. Organized, joined us handing the meals out last year and she wanted it to be more organized. Last 2 years I would just take the calls even a day before and scramble to buy another meal. This year I am doing it different. Our goal is to hand out 50 meals! I know that sounds ambitious but I believe that we can accomplish it with a little help. Therefore, I am sending this email to ask for your help. We are to purchasing 12 meals ourselves. I am asking for your help in providing the remaining 38. Anything that you can give will be appreciated, $1…. $4…. $13.73 all will be fine. I will provide everyone with an email receipt of the total of funds given and how many meals we are providing. I personally do not claim any of this on my taxes. I feel that GOD has allowed me the means to do this. It is not about getting anything in return. For us it is about giving. If you want a receipt of your donation then please ask. I will not judge! I know that some of you may be concerned on who we are giving too. Well it works like this. I will call both of my renters and speak with a guy at my job (he is a Minister). I will ask them if they know of anyone that could benefit from a free meal during the holidays. I will tell them how many meals we have and go from there. The people they contact will contact others and so on. My number will be freely handed out and I will personally speak with all of the families. If you know of any families please let me know. Let me say this; please do not feel obligated to give anything. All of us give in our own way. Whether it is giving to an organization or giving an extra tip to a waiter, we all give in our own way. I am a very giving person but I do not feel obligated to give every time I am asked. A person called my house a couple of weeks ago and I told them no because I was already giving in another way. So if you feel like this is not your way to give that will be fine. No one will know what you did or did not give. You can give in a couple of different ways. You can send the funds in the manner that you choice. You can send cash, check, money order, or credit card. Please make it out to William Melvin or to Avant Williams, LLC. All funds will be deposited in my business account to keep them separate from my personal account. It will allow me to keep track of the incoming funds. I will send all of you an email to let you know when we have collected enough money to purchase the 50 meals. Any overages of funds collected will go to the Christmas meal drive. I would like a confirmation of how much you are going to give no later than Saturday November 10, 2012. That will give me enough time to get the word out and compile a list. I will begin purchasing the items on the 14th and 15th. The meals will be boxed up on the 16th and handed out on the 17th. I will gladly accept any help that you can offer.
