Air 1 assisted the RCMP last night with the rescue of seven people - TopicsExpress

Air 1 assisted the RCMP last night with the rescue of seven people who were stranded along the riverbank of the Pembina River. Just after midnight, Air 1 and its flight crew responded to North of Drayton Valley and Evansburg after a distress call was received from a group of rafters with a deflated raft. The group had been tubing on the river late in the evening before they became stranded in the dark on the riverbank. Air 1 located the group in a remote stretch of the river that was not accessible by vehicle. Based on the time of day and the inability to communicate with the party, Air 1 landed near the group to make contact with them to assess their situation. It was determined right away that one person was in need of medical attention and Air 1 transported the individual to a nearby EMS unit that was on standby at the nearest roadway. The GPS coordinates of the stranded group were given to Evansburg RCMP who then deployed on ATVs to the scene. Efforts to access the remote area were still underway at 5 a.m. this morning to rescue the remaining rafters. The location of the stranded rafters would have been virtually impossible to pinpoint without Air 1 assistance.
