Air Asia QZ8501: Airline Wasnt Licensed to Fly Sunday Route, So Why Did It? (1-05-15) ~ https://youtube/watch?v=Qet0DMIdQWg Indonesia said AirAsia Bhd. (AIRA) wasn’t authorized to fly to Singapore the day its jet crashed and halted the route pending an investigation, raising questions about the enforcement of regulations. AirAsia was only permitted to fly the Surabaya to Singapore route on four days of the week, not including Sunday when the accident occurred, Indonesia’s transport ministry said Jan. 2. Singapore’s Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement the next day saying that while it had authorized the airline to run daily flights during the winter season, carriers need to get separate permission from authorities at each point on their route. The development comes as search teams scour the Java Sea for remains from the aircraft that crashed on a routine commercial flight Dec. 28 with 162 people on board. An early analysis shows the jet may have flown into a storm cloud and its engine’s operations could have been affected by “icing,” Indonesia weather office researchers wrote in a report. If AirAsia flew on a day when it wasn’t permitted, “then the onus falls not only on the airline but also on the regulator,” Shukor Yusof, founder of aviation research firm Endau Analytics, said by phone yesterday from Johor. “Somebody clearly didn’t do their job.”
