Akpabio makes U-turn, falls OBA Via Propeller Newspapers In a last minute manoeuvre, Governor Godswill Akpabio today reneged on an agreement entered into earlier with Obong Bassey Albert popularly called OBA by his supporters. It would be recalled that Akpabio had agreed to let Albert have full control of the adhoc delegate list of Uyo senatorial district as a first step to materialising the senatorial ambition of OBA. Albert who 48 hours ago was a top contender for the office of governor against Akpabio’s wish was made to agree to a negotiation for a senatorial seat instead. The agreement led 42-year old Albert into partially collapsing his political structure for Akpabio who in turn promised to make Albert have a smooth journey to the Senate on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). But in a last minute scheming, Akpabio this morning instructed state party Chairman, Paul Ekpo not to lose sight of materials for today’s adhoc election as the party holds ward congresses. He told Ekpo that he was particularly interested in the list of Uyo senatorial district “more than any other” and that he wanted the names he would send to reflect in 6 of the 9 lists from the senatorial district. When Albert insisted that this was not what was agreed on, Akpabio said he could take control of the adhoc list of three local government areas in the senatorial district and not all of the 9. The local government areas are Itu, Nsit Ibom and Ibiono Ibom, Bassey’s local government. Albert’s protests fell on the governor’s deaf ears. The frustrated Albert, Propeller gathered, has since reported the development to a certain Jide, a billionaire political investor who allegedly brokered the agreement between Akpabio and OBA at the instance of President Goodluck Jonathan. There are 329 wards from which 978 adhoc delegates would be drawn. Our reporter gathered that so far Akpabio is in control of the list of adhoc delegates from over 80 wards. Meanwhile, no ward congresses held anywhere in the state today. Propeller will bring you details of the hijacking of today’s PDP congresses and delegate list by power brokers in PDP.
