Alabama finished their weekend series sweep of 9th ranked Ole Miss this afternoon behind the left arm of the Bulldog Jon Keller. Keller was magnificent today, tossing his 1st career complete game in gaining the Tide a 3-1 series finale victory. Keller gave up only 1 run & 7 hits (all singles), while collecting 8 strike outs in the process, including the game ender against the SECs 2nd leading home run hitter, Sikes Orvis. Ole Miss scored their only run of the game in the 2nd, when they parlayed a leadoff walk, single, & 6-4-3 DP grounder into a 1-0 lead. Alabama responded in their half of the 4th when Mikey White led off the inning with his 2nd home run of the year, a towering blast over the fence in left field to knot the game at 1. Ben Moore, who had 6 hits in the series, followed Mikeys blast with a single of his own. Kyle Overstreet then smashed a double that put Tide runners on 2nd & 3rd, still with no outs. Wade Wass, who had a nice series at the plate, drove home Moore with the go ahead run with a single. Austen Smith completed the scoring for the inning & for the game with an RBI ground out that scored Overstreet. Bama lead 3-1 after 4 & that would be the final. Ole Miss never really threatened over the last 7 innings, as the Rebels were only able to get 1 runner in scoring position after the 2nd. Once Alabama had scored the magic number of 3 runs (Tide is 19-0 on the season when scoring 3 or more runs), they put themselves into the capable hands of Keller, who frustrated the Rebels, rarely allowing even a hard hit ball. Alabama got multi hit games today from Overstreet (single & double) & Moore (2 singles), while White had the other extra base hit with his homer. White, Wass, & Smith had the Tides RBIs. Bama improves to 19-8 on the year & a SEC leading 6-3 conference record. They are back in action on Tuesday night as they host the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monrow to close out their 4 game home stand, before hitting the road again next weekend with a series at Texas A&M. First pitch on Tuesday is 6:05. Enjoy the sweep Alabama fans, it sure is sweet. Roll Tide!!
