Alaska is very cool. The people are super friendly and laid back. I went out to the car at 7:15a and there wasnt a soul to be seen. The coffee shop doesnt open until 8a. Yesterday, we went into a shop at 8:45 and the owner said, Youre up early. I didnt tell her Id been up for 4 hours. Its quite a difference from the normal get up and go that most of us are used to. Ive slowed my life considerably, but this is even slower. Its nice. The second noticeable thing is the silence. Its quiet where we live, but this is even more extreme. Standing by the water last night, the only sounds were coming from the earth. There werent any cars or planes. There wasnt even the hum of electric lighting. Just pure silence. Its like a lesson in yoga. Be present and be silent. There is so much in this moment. Stop and take it all in. Listen to the sound of silence. Its in that silence that you can hear your soul.
