Has the US defaulted twice in the last 25 years? Is the US about to default again? This isnt about a country that is having a bit of bad luck financially at the moment, this is about a country that prides itself on ripping other people off. In Argentina they call it viveza criolla: a philosophy of progress along the line of least resistance and ignoring rules, a lack of sense of responsibility and consideration for others, and it extends to all social groups and throughout the whole country, although it predominates in Buenos Aires. Viveza criolla has been called the principal cause of a moral, cultural, economic, social and political crisis (wiki) They believe that the rules that EVERYONE else has to abide by dont apply to them, so when they are backed into a corner they lash out calling everyone, blaming everyone...but the people whos fault it actually is - namely themselves. This default couldve been so easily avoided. All Argentina had to do is negotiate in good faith, show some signs of being willing - but theyve had 12 YEARS to do this, and now theyve finally run out of time. And the amusing thing is, that the average Argentine believes that defaulting somehow wipes the slate clean, which it doesnt. It just pushes the debt further down the line, to their children, and makes it harder to get any international help, financially. Hence why after their last default, Argentina had the choice of not getting any loans or taking the loans but allowing an independent, neutral 3rd party (New York in this case) to mediate any dispute. Argentina eagerly took the money and now wants to renege on its obligations. Dont forget that if Argentina were properly governed they would have enough money to pay off these debts and still be set for life. Argentina the country that keeps on failing despite having ALL of the advantages, because in 1908, Argentinas economy was bigger and better than the USAs, and Argentina couldve been where the USA is now - a powerhouse. But they threw away all of their advantage, and like sulky teenagers cry Its not fair when theyre held to account for their actions.
