Alhamdu Lillah Rabil Alamin (Praises and thanks to Allah) Celebrating 10 years of service with the Child Protection Alliance (CPA), a decade in which I have been part of a team that in our little way contributes towards making The Gambia a child friendly country, where children are protected from abuse and their rights respected. CPA has been and continuous to be a remarkably life-changing place for me. It has given me the opportunity to work with people of diverse ages, background, profession and nationality. From past and present staff, volunteers and members of Voice of the Young to the politicians and technocrats in government offices in Banjul, to the children, women and local leaders in the remote villages of Kartong to Koina. From countries in Western Africa to those in East and South, from Europe to America, I certainly couldnt ask for a better opportunity to serve Gambia and the world as a promoter and defender of Human Rights. As I celebrate this ‘long’ service with notable achievements, I dedicate it to those who have made it happen. Foremost appreciation goes to the man who leads from behind, a gentleman par excellence who in humility supports people to grow, my boss Njundu Drammeh, he was the first person to show me how to print a document saved in a floppy disc back in 2002 in his office in UNICEF, unknowing to both of us that years on, we will serve the same institution. To the exemplary and talented lady Phat-matta Ndure who cause my joining CPA in 2004. Matta, on a Thursday afternoon, just one more day to close of application, at the veranda of CPA TANGO office, then herself a Youth Coordinator told me Bakary applylo programme office post bi – apply rek nga set. Matta thanks for that encouragement, it never came up in our few interactions thereafter but I shall never forget that because it was the trigger of me working for CPA. Special thanks to Jalamang Camara and the entire interview Panel Hon. Marie Saine and the rest for believing in a young man in 2004 for such a position and to sister Musukuta Badjie, employed same day and served together as Programme Officers. Our senior P.O then Nfamara Dabo and now Board Vice Chair, thanks for the coaching in my early months. To the past and present Youth Coordinators and other staff, especially our long serving office backbone, my bro Sunkaru Kujabi, I shall always love you. Finally, my wife Awa and family, thanks for the understanding when I stay in office late or travels out of homes for days. Each one of you who have supported and encouraged me over the 10 years, Allah rewards you ALL abundantly… It is not by my knowledge or power but by the grace and blessings of the Almighty Allah!!
