Alice Lovelace posting in the spirit of Arts Interface....If you are a classroom teacher in the metropolitan Atlanta area, would love to talk to you about how you and your students can befriend a teacher and students living in the Democratic Republic of Congo. After reading this message, check out Friends of the Congo. Several years ago I did a project with elementary school students around the daily lives of children in South Africa and Haiti and their drive to get an education despite many hurdles, poverty being one. Students were asked to adopt a student--they brought in a shoe box that they painted and decorated. then used their own money--either an allowance or money they earned--to fill the box with items a student needed for school, then included a toy and one personal item they loved that they felt able to pass on to another student to love. In the letters they wrote they explained why the personal item they enclosed was special to them and talked about their life and education. I am eager to do a similar project with elementary students connecting them with students in The Democratic Republic of the Congo. Looking for interested teachers who are willing to let me and some students from Morehouse college work with their class---maybe twice a week for 4-6 weeks beginning in March and culminating in early May. If you are a teacher and have an interest, I would love to hear from you. Please Chat or In box me.
