For far too long a man of his calibre had been left out of the JKA organisation through no fault of his own. Mori and Naka Sensei sealed the significant event with a meeting in Melbourne much to the delight of all of us both in Australia and New Zealand. Stemming from that meeting Sensei Lloyd Baggott (5th Dan and senior partner at Minter Ellison Barristers and Solicitors) was nominated by Mori Sensei to organise a JKA Australia National Seminar and Championships. This event is scheduled for March 2014 and this newsletter is preliminary notification. As you know Mori and Naka Sensei have a close relationship with us and over the past several years have been a major contributing factor to our growth as an organisation but particularly our skill level. Mori Sensei personally invited me to bring a group from New Zealand to participate in this event. To that end I have assisted my close friend Lloyd (former member of JKA New Zealand) with some planning details and liaising with JKA HQ. More importantly Sensei Keith Geyer has had major input as has Sensei Nishimura delegated assistant. To date over 300 participants have registered an interest and I anticipate taking a group in excess of 30 and possibly 50 members to Melbourne in March next year. A meeting of JKA Auckland senior members will plan a schedule prior to Christmas. A scheduled New Zealand versus Australia match is on the cards and I am confident that will be well represented in every category. In my mind, I already have an idea of those likely to be in the New Zealand team training squad for the world Shoto Cup in October 2014 Tokyo. This tournament will provide an excellent platform in preparation for the World Championships.
