“All Is Lost,” tells the story of Robert Redford, wealthy yachtsman, struggling to get back to land all on his own after a stray shipping container cripples the 39-foot sailboat that brought him to the middle of the Indian Ocean. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong, every time he fixes one problem the next one appears, and at one point he gives up and prepares for death. He learned self-sufficiency, and with confidence and determination he overcame many obstacles, and then faced death calmly when there truly was no way out. He surrenders to the waves (Life. God. Universe). And then, when he has finally given up, he’s saved. He had to surrender his earthly hopes of survival (add yours: success. marriage. family. wealth. fame. security. safety. happiness.) to experience the grace of true salvation.
