All Sacramento area residents should know that Congressman Ami Bera, who has voted in favor of medical marijuana, is facing a tight race against Doug Ose, a longtime opponent of medical marijuana who called for Federal closure of cannabis clubs and calls MMJ a sham. On top of his backwards view of marijuana, Ose applauded the Hobby Lobby decision and is undecided on the reality of climate change. Karl Rove and the Cal Chamber of Commerce are dumping millions into Oses campaign, blaming Bera for Obamacare and the budget deficit. Beras office estimates hell lose 25,000 votes because its a midterm election, so voter turnout is key. Dr. Bera, who knocked anti MJ zealot Dan Lungren out of office after two close races, is an MD who did his residency in SF during the AIDS crisis; he reiterated to me last night his understanding of the importance of MMJ for patients with AIDS and cancer.
