The purpose of Sherrill’s documentary Keep Film Alive! is to help save celluloid, the original art form of moviemaking, before it is too late. Several leading filmmakers, including J.J. Abrams (Star Wars), Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids), Christopher Nolan (Interstellar), Marn Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Quenn Taranno (Pulp Ficon), have urged Hollywood to keep celluloid as a filmmaking opon. Sherrill is seeking support for his venture from these and other top movie directors who are sll shoong big budget films on celluloid. He plans to interview more than thirty Hollywood studio execuves, directors, directors of photography, movie stars, execuves from Kodak, Panavision and post-producon house Deluxe, and many other industry notables. Sherrill’s upcoming documentary will explain the pros and cons of film vs. digital in the moon picture industry. It will describe differences between the two technologies that affect movie making, eding and distribuon, and it will detail the various issues involved, such as quality (the “film look”), economics, audience expectaons and movie preservaon. It will capture the almost universal nostalgia for cinema by depicng some of the most memorable images of our me recorded on film since the early days of movie making in the late nineteenth century. Sherrill plans to reach out to some of those who made these films for their comments and insights. Keep Film Alive! will come full circle by showing footage of behind-the-scenes workflow from movie producon companies that sll use film. Crowdfunding Campaign The first step towards making Keep Film Alive! is creang a short pitch film to raise money via a crowdfunding website such as Kickstarter or Indiegogo to produce the final documentary. Several industry instuons and individuals from the film community are contribung resources to the venture. Kodak has already donated several reels of film to help start the process. Panavision has provided equipment, use of a studio and other resources to start shoong scenes that show what a film crew does in making a movie and to conduct interviews with those involved. Tree House has agreed to help with eding the pitch film and Filmworkers has consented to do the processing. Bio Sterling Sherrill is the founder and proprietor of Sterlingfilms of Waco, Texas.
