All of the depressing things that I hear on the news inevitably make me sad at the state of this world, but Ive discovered this week that the closer they are to home the greater their impact is on me. What happened at my former high school this week, resulting in death of one young man and changing the life of another in an awful way, has been so disturbing to me despite the fact that I didnt know anyone involved. And now to learn that Scott Rogers has been shot and killed is another layer added on to that sadness. I didnt watch his show often but Ill never forget how kind he was to me when we were in the checkout line together at Albertsons one evening a few years ago. He could tell from the NyQuil and cans of chicken noodle soup I was buying that I had a cold, and he suggested some helpful remedies that I still use to this day when I get sick. He asked my name and said hed wish me well on his show the next morning. He had a lovely British accent and such a cheery disposition, I couldnt help but feel a little better right then. My heart is heavy at the loss of these men. Why do people so often resort to violence? Rest in peace JohnQuaries Smith and Scott Rogers.
