All of us agree, that none of us have attained the state of pure white, or Self realization. If we did then we would be in Moksha/Jannat/Heaven. And as such, we all are at some level of shade and oscillate in the degree of the shade at various times. At the same time, there is a clear turning point in our lives when we make a clear determination for self reform... and work towards a definite goal of cleansing our self... in two ways... First... is to be aware and recognize when our speech, thoughts and actions are leading us to the darker side of the spectrum... and work consciously and deliberately to arrest those... when and where possible, and to the degrees and extent possible. And second... honestly and remorsefully repent for our past wrong doings with a close confident, if possible, or just within ourselves... to raise our vigor to abstain from such down the line.
