All of us who work at Jack London State Park were saddened to learn that Greg Hayes passed away this morning. Greg served many years at Jack London State Park as a California State Park Ranger. Long a supporter of the volunteer program at the park, Greg joined the Valley of the Moon Natural History Association (VMNHA) after he retired and became a tireless volunteer and advocate for the park. He joined the Board of Directors and eventually became the Association president. When the state threatened to close the park, Greg, who was then the President of the Association, worked with great determination to reach an agreement with the state to keep the park open and have it operated by VMNHA. The fact that the park is open today and more popular than ever, is in no small part thanks to his great love for the park and Jack Londons legacy. We will miss his deep knowledge of the park and of all aspects of Jack London. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family. A memorial service has tentatively been set for July 20. When arrangement are finalized you will find the details here.
