All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume. Noam Chomsky RS: Our healthcare system appears to function in this way. Patients I talk to about their journey are so frequently in the dark, given poor or no explanation for their symptoms or condition. Even after surgery so few understand that there can be a sickness response that is part of recovery. Just knowing this is empowering. Lets not have helpless patients. Lets have empowered, informed patients who know and understand their circumstances and what they need to do. Lets be proactive.
