All right. Im posting this at the New York group, cause I know this is the group with the deep intellect. So, listen close to what Im putting forth here and all will make sense. I found a cover of the 1969 Terry Knight Beatles novelty Saint Paul, as redone by a modern-day anomaly who calls himself iamaphoney. I learned, through pure happenstance (which is not the country Im from; that would be Happenstan), that you can sing bits from ANOTHER song over parts of this song, and even though the chord progressions are different, the melody of the overlayed tune will still find a comfortable place in the novelty songs chords. Im gonna tell you what parts of what song to sing over which parts of the linked tune. Just transpose that song to this songs key, and sing the melody as you usually would. By the way, this may sound counter-intuitive, but the choruses will not line up structurally. You have to start the outside songs chorus a line or so early for that whole chord mesh to work. So, heres the instructions: The song youll be dropping in will be Teach Your Children by CSNY. (Excuse any lyrical errors. I got them off a webpage.) Start singing the first verse between 0:13 and 0:14. That would be these lyrics: You, who are on the road Must have a code that you can live by And so, become yourself Because the past is just a goodbye Then, wait a while, and between 0:54 and 0:55, you can begin singing the second verse, which is: Teach your children well Their fathers hell did slowly go by And feed them on your dreams The ones they picked, the ones youll know by Finally, without stopping and restarting, you can keep the same time youre in at that point and should begin singing the chorus at 1:23. This is where youll be coming in with the CSNY chorus while the song in the video is still in its pre-chorus. It will definitely take on a different character, but it will still make musical sense: Dont you ever ask them why If they told you, you would cry So just look at them and sigh And know they love you Once you get good at it, you should be skilled enough to go right into a tasteful repeat of the last three lines of the chorus IMMEDIATELY after the first chorus. That would be between 1:40 and 1:41: If they told you, you would cry So just look at them and sigh And know they love you You should be done with the song-synch at 1:55. Lemme know how it all goes for you. (I have especially high hopes for Stephen Fisch, who loves The Beatles, CSN, and singing.)
