All social media discussions should be conducted under the Dont Mention Voltaire Principle. DMVP means no one should say that X is entitled to their opinion, or that I disapprove of what X said but I would defend to the death their right to say it.* As soon as Voltaire is mentioned, the discussion gets sidetracked into Freedom of Speech 101, which will end up with a breach of Godwins Law and talk of shouting Fire! in a crowded cliche. Lets assume freedom of speech and focus on what X actually said and whether or not it is true. *I wouldnt actually defend anything to the death - not even Doctor Who - and I like that more than anything.
