With just a month to go to the competition, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) confirmed the city had stepped in to secure this year‘s event that will now be held at the Balewadi Sports Complex, a 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games venue, on July 3 until 7. NEW YORK (USA): Runnersworld informs that approximately 48 000 runners are registered for this year‘s New York City Marathon, race organizers New York Road Runners have announced now that the lottery for open-registration spots has closed. As such, the race has the potential to supplant the 2011 edition of the marathon, which had 46,759 finishers, as the largest in history. LAUSANNE (SUI): The month of May saw the 2013 European Cup Race Walking, the first of the summer‘s European Athletics Classic Permit Meetings, and many fine performances from European athletes in the first four of the 2013 IAAF Diamond League meetings. European Athletics is consequently pleased to announce that athletes from 12 different countries have been nominated for the May award. The voting will close on 18 June at noon. ST. PETERSBURG (RUS): Foreign athletes can be naturalized to perform for the Russian national athletics team in events with low results level. The president of the All-Russian Athletics Federation Valentin Balahnichev declared about that for national media. „Naturalization will concern those disciplines in which we didn’t have any success during the past 20 years and where we cannot change anything even if we have talented athletes. I mean the endurance events and first of all men middle and long distances, where we had no high-level athletes except of Yuri Borzakovskiy. We want to pay real attention to those events,“ Balakhnichev said to R-Sport news agency.
