Newcastle have all but abandoned hope of re-signing QPR striker Loic Remy, who spent last season on loan with the Magpies, on a permanent deal. Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has warned striker Connor Wickham, who has 12 months left on his contract, to sign a new deal or be sold. Southampton are considering a £15m move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez. DAILY MAIL Ricky van Wolfswinkel is in talks to leave Norwich on a season-long loan to St Etienne, with the Canaries happy to let the striker - who scored just once last season - leave on a permanent deal. THE INDEPENDENT Thomas Vermaelens friendship with Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, with whom he shares an agent, may help sway the Belgians decision if he does leave the Emirates.
