All the most important issues in your life, and in the country, are more complex than a simple yes or no, right or wrong, black or white. Anything worth talking about, has depth and complexity, and is often tied into other problems and other peoples lives. Social issues. Financial issues. Whats political. Whats newsworthy? Why are we even talking about this? Its important that we talk about these things because when we can wrap our heads around other people problems, and start analyzing all the variables, then we can begin to realize that those problems are really our problems, in a way that we didnt understand, previously. This is why I prefer the liberal media over Foxnews and Rush... Example A: Minimum Wage Conservative: Raising MW will cause inflation. Thats bad. End of story. Liberal: Income inequality, full-time employees with substandard living situations, increasing national poverty levels, median income since 1978. Example B: Mike Brown Conservative: He was a thug. Why are we making it a racial issue? Liberal: Black v white criminal statistics, police militarization and brutality, police camera statistics, prison populations v criminal activity based on race. Example C: Global warming Conservative: Its a conspiracy, theres always been global warming and cooling. Liberal: Ice caps and earth temp, greenhouse gas levels, deforestation, liveable human environmental levels, oil corporations funding anti-GW research. What really most often blows my mind, is the amount of people who will take a side on an issue, even if its oppressive, even if its oppressive against themselves. Because they feel a sense of strength in mindlessly agreeing with the simple solutions offered to them.
