All you all are ridiculously unpredictable.....and I love it. I cannot tell you how many times Im surprised about a post that resonates with folks.....and then other times when I think something is clever/meaningful and .... meh.... I have a couple of guidelines (regulated by me) that I adhere to when I tell a little story: 1. its a true story, 2. its meaningful or funny to me....and well, thats about it. Yesterdays story is one that has been rolling around...well....since it happened. It took me awhile to figure out how to tell it and I think its worth talking about why. So, stick with me if you wish....... There is one part of this business that didnt make it into my teeny-weeny business plan (and it should have), I view this business as my teeny-weeny vehicle for social change and dessert. I recognize that my contribution to social change is minuscule.....and Im ok with that....in fact sometimes Im thrilled with that. So heres is why yesterdays story is tricky to tell...... Its a hard story to tell without sounding like Im conveying that Im out of the ordinary or a do-gooder. The fact is, Im extraordinarily ordinary. And therein lies my droplet of social change in this sea of humanity. We all have moments, some have many, where we briefly pause and consider extending ourselves to a stranger, and then, all to often, dont. I wonder if the not doing is due to a culture that says it isnt done. As a culture, we dont (typically) ask a stranger to lunch, or listen to a strangers story. Which leads (ever so scenically) to my logic.... What if an ordinary person starts sharing the small magic that happens when she notices others more? If I tell my story. If you tell your story. And they tell their stories..... Do we begin to create a culture? A culture that says... we notice people here we take care of people here this is how we roll Just for today, for this totally unremarkable gal, its worth occasionally dipping a toe outside of convention and seeing what ripples result. Yours, Mrs. Delicious
