Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of - TopicsExpress

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things. (Surah An Nur, Ayat 35) Explanation: This ayat is difficult to understand, but when we look at it deeply then it is possible to interpret it in terms of the limited perception given to us. Understanding this ayat doesn’t mean that we can still perceive ALLAH, as very categorically this ayat has been explained in terms of “How this world operates and our Perception of it”. To understand it better, first we need to understand the word NOOR, which in literal terms means Light. But what is this light………… Is it the light of Sun or Moon or Star etc. If we look back since advent of this world Light has been considered as source of energy, whether it is in form of light or heat or combined, commonly known as Energy. and energy when converted to work is called “POWER”. If we look at the past, we know that people used to worship Sun and Moon, as they considered them as gods or source of Power, which is not true. To deny this that ALLAH is not Physical Light that we Perceive, the story of Hazrat Ibrahim (RUA), is self- explanatory in Quran. It states that “When Ibrahim (RUA) saw Sun, he thought it is god but when he witnessed the decline of it, in evening he said that anything that goes down, cannot be the ultimate source. Same he repeated with Moon, so he came to conclusion that both these sources of light are not GOD”. Therefore if we take ALLAH as Physical Light, we are bound to go wrong. As even in Muslims you will hear people saying that “That at night I saw the ray of light or in my dreams I saw the rays of light from ALLAH”. This all is not true and leads us in wrong direction. Burning lamps at graveyard, temples etc. is all associated with it. The ayat starts with: ALLAH is “NOOR” of skies and earth i.e. ALLAH is Source of Power for everything in this universe. Then ALLAH is quoting an example to explain himself, in terms of Humans or Us. But that doesn’t mean that still we can conceive HIM. To explain Himself he is telling us that He (ALLAH) is a recess in this universe and in that niche his Power is resting, which is all enclosed, so nothing can penetrate it, yet so crystal clear that all power is emitting from it, without any hindrance, in all directions. The source of power is within that enclosed area and the power is so extensive that even the source (Oil) is merged into it. To further understand it, we know that “ALLAH after making the earth and skies, placed himself at a distance of approx.. 50,000 light years from us”. That is what HE is talking about when it says “Niche or Misykat”. Since as humans we only understand a thing which has a source. For example a car will only start when the fuel is present similarly, lamp will only glow when it has Oil or electricity. To make us understand he used Olive Oil as source to lit the lamp. But again HE is saying that that the Oil itself is glowing without the Light touching it that means that “ALLAH DON’T NEED A SOURCE, HE IS ALL IN ALL, BEYOND OUR PERCEPTION”. “ALLAH Himself is Source and Power and we cannot conceive Him”. That’s why HE categorically tell us that “Don’t compare me with anything, I (ALLAH) am beyond the perception of anyone”. HE (ALLAH) says “I can forgive anything, except Shirk”. (Shirk = Bringing anyone between ALLAH and Self e.g. human, idol, dead people etc.), because nothing is comparable to him, so we need to ask ALLAH for everything without intermediaries. In the closing of this ayat he is telling us that the maximum level a human can achieve is that “He starts getting directions from this Divine Power, to find SIRAT E MUSTAQEM once he reaches the level of Moomin”. Quran is self-explanatory only we need to ponder on it, as whole and not stand-alone ayat, without associating any historic thing with it. It has to be understood & Implemented the way it is commanded, without adding or subtracting anything. It doesn’t matter that how good or bad that thing looks to us, it has to be followed “As Is” i.e. “IT CONTAINS ALL” for our well-being. Still it is individual choice as “Every soul is responsible for HIS or HER Deeds”
