Allen, I’m glad you asked. Food has been my thing since your mom Dadie taught me how to cook good nutritious food on a serious budget (I am thrifty). Food stamps have been on my mind since the real estate agent that sold me my first house missed my total costs by $780 and left me with $34. I wasn’t that worried as I was going to work that Friday night and would make good tips. I went to work to find that they had changed general management at the Airtel over some interesting embezzlement issues and all the bar staff, the hostess, and the restaurant manager were history…including part time me. I went back to my new home to find that the former owners had taken all the carpets, it wasn’t wired for a dryer, and there was no water pressure. Thus my interest in proper real estate regulations. I was broke and crying for three days and the kids were coming home so I went and got food stamps. In those days they were indeed paper food stamps, and I drove 10 miles away so no one I knew would see me buying stuff. I, too, resented people buying TV dinners and steaks in line ahead of me. Then it occurred to me that maybe they hadn’t had a clever mother-in-law to teach them how to stretch a buck. If I had won that $500,000,000 lottery, I would have launched a nationwide program to use idle kitchens (churches, schools, rec rooms in trailer parks) to teach people how to cook cheaply and in advance so they didn’t fall into the fast food trap. When my mother was dying I made many trips to Seattle. Just before leaving on the first one, Pete Wilson, Republican governor of California, was going off on single mothers. Talk about hating down. Having been one, I took those ten 12 hour trips to think about what I would do. As a result I wrote a 20 page plan called “Our House” which I copied and sent to every single member of congress, Pete Wilson, and three former presidents. Cost a fortune to print and it was not implemented, but I tried. (transcript available on request) When Ray left me with seven houses to complete, building inspectors taught me how to build houses and all the games contractors play to cheat. Some of these could be life threatening and at least impact the financial welfare of the home buyer. I built them right in California, and, having built a couple homes in states with NO regulations, they are worth all the trouble. Energy was a no-brainer. When shown how to save money and live better and not have to chat up the Mid-East or shoot at them, renewable energy was just the thinking person’s way to go. I hope Halliburton doesn’t make another penny in this lifetime. And, of course, Enron ruined an entire year for me. And now there is the issue of medical costs and insurance. Having almost died (yes, I am playing the death card), I am intensely interested in health care and the associated costs. And I am really ticked at the IN-sincere senator from Texas Ted Cruz (when a car salesman, or a preacher, or a President knits his eyebrows into forward slash-back slash mental molehills and lowers his voice to impress you with how important his words are….RUN!!!!!) who poked our economy out of $24 billion dollars. And since I am widely known as a strong-willed problem solver (pushy know-it-all) I just naturally thought I would go save the world. Thanks again for asking. XOXOX Judi
