Allen West: Obama Complains About Fake Racism Because He’s “Devoid of Character” [WATCH SPEECH] President Barack Obama has come under increasing criticism for the consistent failure of his policies both domestically and around the world. Because his policies are based on liberal ideas that have failed time and time again in history, he has no way–either with logic or with evidence–to argue for his position. Obama’s favorite argument is to accuse anyone who disagrees with his polices of racism. Former U.S. Representative Allen West, a military veteran and leading black conservative, says he has had enough of it. West recent spoke at the Western Conservative Conference in Denver, the theme of which was “America at Its Best,” and refuted once and for all the idea that conservatives–and, increasingly, all Americans–stand in opposition to Obama’s policies because of the president’s race. “The first thing about America being at its best is the fact that a young man born in 1961 in the inner city of Atlanta, Georgia can stand here before you in the Western Conservative Conference, ” West said. “And it is not based upon the color of his skin, but it’s about the content of his character.” West says that conservatives haven’t done enough to describe for Americans their hopeful vision of what America at its best can look like, giving liberals an open door to persuade people with “sound bites” that offer the hope Americans want and need. “And Americans fall for it,” he said. Rather than attempt to persuade the American people that their policies offer hope, West says, the left refuses to argue the merits of their positions. Instead, in difficult times, he says, “you have people like Barack Obama and Eric Holder that want to complain about skin color because they’re devoid of character.” Watch West’s full speech below, or here. You can also learn more about West at his website. West is right. Obama and his allies constantly fall back on the same tired rhetorical tactic used by all politicians in indefensible positions–they distract the audience from the real issues at hand by attacking the opposition–the ad hominem attack described by Aristotle as a logical fallacy over two thousand years ago. He’s also right–maybe even more right–when he says that conservatives need to do more to paint a picture of the Founders’ vision of a free America devoid of big government intrusion. Education is key to argumentation. As Aristotle also said, attacks on the character of the opponent only work when the audience is ignorant of the facts. Liberals–through the media and American public schools–have held sway over education for far too long, and the result is the Obama administration and failed leftist policies. If conservatives hope to achieve the Founders’ goal of limited government, economic opportunity, and individual liberty, we must begin by making that goal clear to the American people. youtube/watch?v=CNXADfiQUR8&feature=player_embedded
