Allowance: Ekiti Workers Demand Parity With Teachers. **Teachers Industrial action enters Fouth week! Indications emerged in Ekiti State yesterday that there is no end in sight yet to the strike embarked upon by teachers in the state as the state’s civil servants demanded that whatever the state government conceded to the teachers must be extended to them. State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Kolawole Olaiya, said the civil servants ought to benefit in any increase to the teachers’ salaries since teachers had been benefitting in the 33 per cent Relativity Allowance meant for core civil servants since 2012. Although teachers are demanding 27.5 per cent Teachers Peculiarity Allowance otherwise known as Teachers Salary Scale, TSS, the state government has offered to pay them 15 per cent, but the teachers are sticking to their guns, hence the strike which is in its fourth week. The demand by the civil servants yesterday was expected to complicate the plight of the teachers as the state government, which hinged its inability to pay the 27.5 per cent TSS on paucity of funds, would be over-burdened the new demand. Olaiya told journalists in Ado Ekiti yesterday that it would be wrong and sectional for the government to have considered only the teachers for the 27.5 percent professional allowance, when teachers had earlier benefited from the 33 per cent relativity that was a statutory benefit for the core civil servants.
