Geanie Coulter loved holidays. She always had. She was a firm believer in celebrating whatever you could whenever you could. When she was bored she’d even make up little holidays for herself and dress up for them. Of course, she usually didn’t tell anyone what she was doing. On last Dress Like a Vampire Thursday she had worn a black velvet miniskirt, a blood red satin blouse, and red fishnet stockings. She had put on a white cream makeup base from one of her Halloween makeup kits and had painted her lips blood red. Everyone had told her she looked pretty, a few might have muttered something less polite under their breaths, but no one had guessed she was dressing that way for a particular purpose. Well, no one except for her husband, Joseph. He had taken one look at her ensemble and said “I vant to suck your blood,” in his best Bela Legosi impersonation. She loved that he got it. In many ways she felt like he was the first person who had ever really gotten her in general. She had friends, some good ones, but she knew most of them viewed her as a bit of an oddity. That was fine. She’d grown up used to that. It was nice, though, to finally have someone who didn’t. Joseph celebrated her eccentricities, her need to amuse herself. In September he had even surprised her and picked her up for lunch dressed as a pirate on International Talk Like a Pirate Day. She had been so happy that he was participating in her mania that she’d teared up and had to excuse herself to the bathroom for a minute because no one wanted to see a pirate cry. Joseph was wonderful and the last several months since they were married had been amazing. Which made his behavior the last couple of days that much stranger. “Earth to Geanie?” She blinked and looked over at Cindy. “I’m sorry, what did you say?”
