Almost 300 school girls were taken without a clue of what they - TopicsExpress

Almost 300 school girls were taken without a clue of what they would endure or if they will ever be returned. Seven weeks after the abduction of the Nigerian school girls, how does the government respond to the pressure? It bans the very protestors who have demanded the girls safe release. The reason stated is that the protests pose a security threat. The protestors demand greater security to protect Nigerians but not to forsake their constitutional rights. The government-stated security threats do not distract the real menace Nigerians have and continue to face as they exercise their constitutional right to education, free movement and free assembly. Boko Haram have killed thousands to pull back the rights Nigerians have worked so hard to preserve. The womens focused demonstrations are in line with the peaceful expression of their grievances. It is Boko Harams indiscriminate violence that undermines the security of all Nigerians. I am tempted to wonder aloud: When will womens demand for peace be taken as seriously as those who wage war? The women have peacefully brought exposure of the abduction to the worlds attention. I have learned from experience that it is very easy for women to be ignored. From afar, we admire and applaud the tenacity of the women all while ignoring the needs of the actors. We need our girls back.
