Almost everyone knows about the Maryville rape case by now. The - TopicsExpress

Almost everyone knows about the Maryville rape case by now. The case never going to court was outrageous considering all the evidence they had (a medical examination, a confession from the boy even though he insisted it was consensual which wasnt possible because the minor was inebriated, etc.), but what the Maryville community did was infinitely more horrifying and 10X worse than what happened in the aftermath of Steubenville. Anyone with a daughter or any young women in their lives who they care about should be appalled by this... I know its hard to think in those terms when it is not happening to someone you know, but any time these kinds of injustices happen and we do nothing about them, we are setting forth into the world our okayness with them and that it is okay to not hold rapists accountable for their actions, okay to victim blame and persecute victims who come forward (the biggest reason why most victims dont and so many acts of violence against women are unaccounted for) and okay for those with political connections to be excused from their crimes because of them. I know it feels like what can I really do? (that can make a difference) and the biggest thing is to use your voice to express your outrage; in this case, add your name/initials to the 12,000 people who have already signed this petition. I know people hate these things but you can sign up with your junk e-mail address (it will ask you to share on FB, but you dont have to) & then unsubscribe from any future e-mails. One last thing, I think Daisy Coleman and her family are incredibly BRAVE for allowing her name to be used. Hopefully, her doing so will not only result in justice being served, but will also inspire victims of violence everywhere to come forward without shame. #maryville End Domestic Violence in the South Asian Community, Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence, Price of Silence, Day of the Girl, Futures Without Violence, 10x10 - Girl Rising, Because I am a Girl Global, Because I am a Girl, A Mighty Girl
