Almost on daily basis we in Africa are jolted by disconcerting tales of asylum-seekers,migrant boat people and poor folks who try to sail to Europe in rafts and all kinds of unseaworthy skiffs.We hear sad stories of boatwrecks,of pregnant women and kids harried by hunger on highseas,as much as they were tormented by fear of the unknown. Africa needs not be a dismal hell for anybody to risk such perils;hunger,poverty and lack of opportunity can be conquered!We may not be able to determine how and when to have responsible governance;we can only determine how not to despair! We can change our personal destinies.We can decide to discover opportunities in Africa,and there are countless of such opportunities,nobody can take that from you.Perhaps,it is time we stop passing bucks for our circumstances on regimes and regimemen! There is corruption and misrule,yes.But dont allow these to distract you from who to defeat poverty.Confront personal poverty,but dont run away from it by trying to sail to Europe!
