Almost two-thirds of gun deaths in the USA are suicides. Thats an especially interesting statistic when you consider that the greatest deterrent to suicide is inconvenience - the harder you make it for someone to kill themselves, the less likely they are to try. Furthermore, of people prevented from attempting suicide once, only around five per cent re-attempt. It seems that when given time to think it over the large majority of potential suicides change their minds. And that is one of the most compelling arguments against gun ownership Ive ever heard.
