Alone with groups such as the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan - TopicsExpress

Alone with groups such as the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), many analysts assess that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Taibba (LeT) pose the greatest geo-strategic threat to regional stability in Central Asia. TTP is the Pakistani Taliban and terrorist group responsible for the attempted car bombing in Times Square in 2010. Their goal essentially is the unseating of the Pakistani central government in Islamabad and the installation of a governing body that will administer law according to Sharia. TTP has effectively established havens in Afghanistan (mostly in Kunar and Nuristan) as their war against the Pakistani government rages in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. LeT is an Islamist terror group best known for the 2008 attack in Mumbai, India. Created initially by the Pakistani military in order to provide the Pakistani military with strategic depth in its fight against India and control of Kashmir, LeT has recently begun stretching its influence internationally and is known to have significant groups in Kunar and Nuristan provinces, Afghanistan.
